Tue 10.30 Boston, MA TD Banknorth Garden

Jeanne - OH MY GOD!!!! WHERE DO I BEGIN ?????? I guess at the beginning. This was my first Van Halen concert. I was at the TDBank North Garden in Boston, with my 17 year-old grandddaughter, waiting for Van Halen. I looked around the Garden, up to the rafters, and there was not one empty seat!! I was psyched! Maybe they'll come back for a second round, I thought. Then the band appeared. We were so excited I can't even remember the sequence of the different parts of the performance! They were amazing!!! I mean AMAZING!!!

I expected David Lee's voice to be great, as I had read some recent reviews. But I didn't know how beautiful it is!! I have heard him sing so many different tunes, but to see him in the flesh (and there was some of that! ouch!) is totally different. What an amazing voice! and when he performed his solo..... OH MY GOD.......I had to gulp back the tears! I could listen to him all night. The whole night he looked as if he were having so much fun! It was obvious he loved what he was doing. He is in fantastic physical shape.... must be the martial arts he practices that keep him that way. It was such a pleasure to watch and listen to Diamond Dave.

And Eddie! All I could think of was how good he looks and sounds after going through all that pain of drinking and getting sober. What an amazing come-back! And CAN HE PLAY!!! and he looked as if were really enjoying the night, too! He is so proud of his son.... it was so heart-warming to see that! And you know, the other band members seemed really proud of Eddie! And rightly so. It was so exciting to hear him play things I'd only heard on CD before. To be able to put the person with the music is a wonderful thing.

We loved Wolfgang. He appears to still be a little shy, but what a great job he did on bass!He even pleased the sox fans with his Red Sock hanging from his bass, and his Red Sox sticker on the bass!!! I can only imagine how he will sound as he develops into a rock star. Looking forward to that! My granddaughter was especially impressed with him.

And I could not believe Alex!!!!! I just never knew how amazing he is! How incredible! His hands go so fast and in perfect time. His solo was just so hard to describe! What words can I use when I just sat there with my mouth open, frozen in time with the perfect drummer? My granddaughter was screaming the whole time!

One would never guess it had been 22 years since they went their separate ways. They were so in sync, so in tune with each other. What a wonderful night!

I wish I were going to the show in Worcester Tuesday night! And a lot of others, too! The crowd loved Van Halen, and it seemed as if Van Halen knew how we felt and really appreciated it.

I wish there had been a program or a tour book or a CD we could have bought.... maybe they'll do that later. My only other wish is that the sound was better. It was nice and loud, but the words to some of the songs were blurred, as if the wires or system couldn't handle the volume. In the end, all that didn't matter; Van Halen swept Boston off its feet and we'll be flying high for a while.

Hey!!!! Will somebody over there give DavidLee my phone number??????

Gary - Does Eddie read his own email?  Below is what I wanted to send (if I had his address)...  The Boston show...was awesome!  I know, pretty original, huh?!

I just wanted to put a comment out to you that you probably wouldn't hear from anyone else.  I know that, for all the wildcat banging, reaching and scratching you do on that sixth appendage of yours, you are extremely fussy and particular about the sound.  I have to tell you, in Boston anyway, that sound did not translate to the 'upper deck'.  I know, I should've bought better tickets, but shoudn't the PA be an accurate reflection of the stage performance?  Trust me, I'm all for the philosophy of louder is better, but it should not be louder than the speakers can handle.  I think if you could roam around the arena during your show, you would be severly disappointed.

I've been in bands for the last 35 years and I KNOW how much you pour into a live performance.  I just wish I could've caught ALL of the subtleties of your guitar mastery...corny, I know, but I've always been the one stuck trying to cover your feats - beleive me, it isn't pretty!  Rock on - Wolfgang's looking more and more confident; my 16-year-old guitar-playing son is jealous as hell!

Rick - Went to the Boston Show 10/30 ... had to let everyone know that VH was all that you hoped for and more ... saw them in 1986? on the 5150 tour and while they were tight as Van Hagar, I'm so glad i got to see hem with David fronting the band ... they blew the roof off the Garden!!! loudest show I have ever seen, and they seemed rough out of the gates with "You Really Got Me" but brought it screaming back together very quickly and sounded great all night long ... 2+ hours of all of the tunes you wanted to hear, and some that you forgot that you needed to hear, "Ice Cream Man" was worth the price of admission ... They look and sound great, and i felt 16 again ... still smiling a day later!  See them now!

Thomas - I saw the band in 82 with Roth and was actually a bit disappointed in his vocal range at the time.  I saw them again in Boston last night...with no disappointment this time.  David is sounding better than ever and the band was loud and tight.  I took my son with me (14 yrs old) and it was so cool to show him what true rock is all about.  He was amazed by Alex and Eddie and their talent.  He was also kind of blown away that there was a kid just a couple years older than him on stage.  I hope they can manage to stay together for this is the real Van Halen!!  A new studio CD would be really sweet
