Fri 10.26 Kansas City, MO Sprint Center

David - Well, folks, after reading many of the earlier reviews, I had high expectations for the Kansas City show.  What happened?

D. Roth rarely 'interacted' with Edward or the audience, there was no 'storytelling' as described at earlier stops. There were sections of songs during which....David simply stopped singing for several seconds....what was up with that?  Did he forget the words, or lose his voice?  And he repeatedly pressed his finger into both ears....problems with earplugs or what?  And the 'S' ramp in front of the stage was used 2 or 3 times....so why bother?  Edward was incredible, as always.  Alex impressed, although looked about 65.  The kid did fine.  Forgive me guys, this band is part of my soul, went to Women & Children for my 1st show, but this felt like a Vegas act that was going through the motions.  What happened since Greensboro?

Terry - 10-26-07  Just saw the Kansas City show.  Do you want the good news or the bad news?  First, the good news: 3/4 of the participants were FANTASTIC!  After seeing Eddie strugggle three years ago, it was wonderful to see that he got helped in rehab.  He was simply fantastic!  His solo was awesome!  Being a drummer, I HAD to go to see Alex, and he didn't disappoint.  In fact, his solo was the highlight of the show!  He split his solo in half, and while  the first half lefft me with eyes bugged out and my chin on my shoes, the SECOND half was even better!  Using triggers and samples, he played a short MELODIC composition that was rhythmically complex.  And the BEAT was infectious!  Neil Peart does a similar thing and it's sensational!!  Wolfie did far better than I would  have guessed he could.  In fact, he did great.  Hit his marks perfectly on back-up vocals, and played with a maturity that must have been accelerated by having EVH for a teacher!  The kid is  great!

OK, now  for  the bad news.  David Lee Roth was a big disappointment.  I hate to say it, but he blew, forgot or didn't even attempt SO many lyrics that he would have been better off humming instead of trying to sing.  :-(  He was flat -- not much energy, rarely went for the high notes, walked around a lot, smiling and waving to the crowd.  But Ed and Wolfie carried the vocals.  Earlier reviews mentioned Dave's kicks and "moves."  Well, tonight his kicks  were low, slow  and awkward.  Perhaps he  had been drinking.  Whatever.  There is no excuse.  The rest of the guys were darn near perfect.  Dave was a three on a scale of ten.  Eddie, Alex and Wolgang were each elevens. My $.02.

Suzanne - I went to the 10\26 Kansas City concert. We had a great time.  I think the anticipation was pretty high.  The Sprint Center has a nice arena, although I think there were some sound problems with the equipment that kept showing up throughout.  But I'll tell you I will never forget Dave coming down that ramp and kicking off one hell of a fast paced, high energy show.  Those guys are 15 years older than me, and I couldn't do that stuff no way, no how!  The music satisfied my soulful craving for Van Halen, old school, mistakes and all.  Thats what makes live music so interesting---its not canned, and it is spontaneous.  My husband didn't believe me that there wasn't going to be much talking, but I understand there was even less so at this show.  I think the most memorable song of the night was either "Hot for Teacher" or "Running with the Devil"....but hell, don't make me choose.  I'd go again.  Eddie looks and sounds great.....but his son's got a heck of a future ahead of him.  What a great family business to be in.  Thanks, guys!  Come to Des Moines soon, would ya?

Steve - I wasn't gonna miss this!  We flew from Dallas to the Kansas City, Missori show at the new state-of-the-art Sprint Arena.  I was blown away!  It was 2 hours of pure genious.  I remember waking up to go to middle school in the 80s with my older brother blasting these tunes, but I never got to see Van Halen.  If they are NOT coming to your city, GO TO THEM!   My only complaint was that Eddie didn't play the keyboard on Jump.  Diamond Dave is back where he belongs!!!!!!  If they come to Dallas I will go again.

Debbie - went 4.5 hours to KC to see Van halen and it was well worth it the show was absolutely SUPERB. we have tickets to ST Louis  which was rescheduled for Mar 08 and will definetly keep my tickets and go again. hope they continue to tour every year for this was a concert worth waiting for. BRING IT ON AGAIN
