In his CD "Get Out of my Yard", Paul Gilbert, one of the greatest guitar players in the industry, has created a special tribute to Eddie Van Halen. Here is a transcription of his comments in the liner notes:

My biggest guitar hero is named Edward. I have seen visions of freedom, virtuosity, and unspeakable joy that remain unmatched. I hope he can find his way to a place free of all pollution and once again show us the beauty of his music and soul. With this hope in mind, I put three strings on my acoustic guitar, tuned them all to E (in octaves), and play these notes for him.

About Paul Gilbert

Paul Gilbert is most recognized for his work with Racer X and then Mr. Big - but has become a very successful solo artist since he left the band in 1996.

Paul formed the group Racer X in Los Angeles in the mid 1980s. The band was heavily influenced by Judas Priest, and Gilbert's guitar style was reminiscent of Yngwie Malmsteen in its speed and technical complexity. He developed a reputation as one of the fastest guitar players in the world due to his remarkably technical and complex work.

He left the band in 1988 and joined forces with Billy Sheehan, who had just left David Lee Roth's band. Together they founded Mr. Big, and created a huge commercial hit with the ballad "To Be With You". Paul left the band in 1997 to pursue a solo career.

Since then, Paul has released 10 solo albums and has appeared on several projects, including a Led Zeppelin tribute band called "Hammer of the Gods", a Rush tribute band known as "Cygnus and the Sea Monsters", a tribute to the Who, along with Mike Portnoy, Gary Cherone, and Billy Sheehan.

He has recently released his latest album "Get Out of my Yard", and is currently on tour with Joe Satriani and John Petrucci in the 2007 G3 tour.
